Our Community & Beyond
To strengthen our relationship with the community,
Broadway offers some unique programs.
Broadway strongly believes we should connect with people locally to meet their needs. We’re always looking for volunteers to help make a world of difference in our community and reach our area with God's love. Here are some opportunities to become a missionary right here in the Quad Cities.
Broadway has a “Store” where we keep supplies on hand for those in need and the shelters, agencies, and organizations that help them. We help provide personal care items, clothing, coats, scarves, boots, and much more. It is part of how we take care of our community. Donations and volunteers are always welcome!
Each October, Churches United of the Quad Cities (of which Broadway Church is a member) sponsors the local CROP Walk. Pledges earned by walkers are used to purchase food for the local Food Pantry. Every year, the Broadway congregation contributes to the CROP Walk to help feed the hungry in the Quad Cities.
The area of Rock Island known as Greenbush holds a meeting once a month on the third Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at the Rock Island Township Hall with a speaker or activity for the entire neighborhood to take part in. Broadway Church assists this group by helping with neighborhood surveys providing information for local agencies and other activities.
Specific Giving Opportunity: Community Month
During Community Month, we collect specific items for those in our area who need them. We may have a Food Pantry Sunday for canned foods or a Smell Good Sunday for razors, soap, deodorant, etc. or a Paper Sunday for Kleenex, paper towels, etc. or even an Undie Sunday for underwear and socks of all sizes for the local shelters and schools.
Other Community Involvement - We offer our facilities for use by community groups such as Girl Scouts, Community Advocacy and Action, NA and AA. We also partner with area agencies, schools, organizations and the city and township for many outreach opportunities.
Specific Giving Opportunities
During the year we offer special Sundays for specific giving either with cash donations or products. International Mission Month has specific choices and locations so we can follow how God has used the money and pray for the receivers of the mission. Previous International Mission Month projects have included collecting money for our sister church, Reye de Salem, to purchase Bibles, for children we've sponsored through Compassion International, and for stoves and mosquito netting for people in Africa.
Broadway Presbyterian Church is also involved with our national church, The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). We take up the special offerings of One Great Hour of Sharing and the Christmas Joy Offering. By combining all of the offerings from our member churches great mission projects are accomplished both nationally and internationally. Broadway also pledges over $9000 a year to the unified fund of PCUSA.
